Hank Strittmatter Recognized with the A & T Chairman's Award
During the June graduation ceremony Hank Strittmatter was recognized for his work in the electrical industry and with IEC and awarded the 2017 A & T Chairman's Award. Hank represents the association and the electrical industry with dedication and excellence.
He began his affiliation with the IEC Fort Worth/Tarrant County Chapter in 1973, the year our chapter program began, when he enrolled as an electrical apprentice. He is a member of the first graduating class which completed on 6/10/1977 and graduated at the top of his class.
He started his teaching career with IEC as a teaching assistant/lab assistant in 1978 to help develop his teaching skills. He began instructing full time in 1979 and has taught all years in the curriculum and the accelerated first year of the IEC Apprenticeship Program. He is known for being firm but fair. Many of his students over the years have said he is one of the strictest instructors they had in the program but learned the most from him.
For the past five years, Hank, has also worked as the training director for our chapter. He brings electrical knowledge to our group and helps make the program successful. In addition, he is instrumental to the success of our program, our instructors and our apprentices. He works to educate the public about IEC and what we offer. He attends numerous job fairs and career nights and serves on panels to educators of all kinds.
Over the years, he has worked in many positions in the trade. From electrical apprentice to business owner, his vast knowledge of all facets of the trade gives him the ability to identify with what the apprentices encounter on a daily basis and also prepare them for what will be expected in the future as they progress in their careers.
Hank served on our board of directors and also A & T committee while employed as an electrician.
His patience and dedication to the trade, the students and IEC is nothing short of remarkable.
Over the years as the trade has progressed, Hank has always been at the forefront ready to do whatever it takes to give him the knowledge and expertise to help produce the best possible electricians. He regularly attends instructor training to learn new tips and techniques to benefit students. He attends code classes and seminars to keep him up to date on things in the electrical industry. And spends countless hours preparing lessons and labs. After all his years of teaching, he is never afraid to go back to the drawing board to find a new way to teach something. He knows that not all students learn the same way and is willing to work until he finds the method that works for them.
Hank has worked with other chapters to determine the most efficient ways to use the curriculum to educate our students. He helps on site with the national apprentice of the year competition and serves as lead subject matter specialist for the first year curriculum errata group. He works with other training directors to help ensure success in their programs.
Hank has helped to train many of our instructors. He is always willing to share his knowledge and information with anyone to help them become a better instructor. His sense of humor is one of his strongest qualities and he always has a smile on his face and is ready to help. He makes certain all our instructors have completed the national instructor training and offers them other educational opportunities. Hank and our instructors attended the instructor conference in 2017 and regularly attend state instructor conferences. He serves as presenter for the first year breakout group at state and national instructor conferences.
He is a mentor as an electrician, instructor, training director and a person. He has a positive impact on everyone’s life he touches. Countless past apprentices are better electricians and people today because of having known Hank Strittmatter.
