The PA Manufacturers’ Association found that approximately: 70% of the companies test for drugs; 19% of the potential employees did not show up for their drug tests; and 16% failed the pre-employment drug test. In 2012, about 24 million Americans aged 12 or older, or 9.2% of the population, reported using an illicit drug or abusing a prescription drug in the prior months according to the most recent survey estimates by the National Institute on Drug Abuse at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That finding was up from 8.3% in 2002.
